The death toll in Haiti's devastating earthquake may be be tipping the scales at the other end of 200,000 by the time the dust finally settles.
The sad incidence has left the country more like a grave yard than a community of living people with the Haiti's Interior Minister Paul Antoine Bien-Aime stating that "around 50,000 dead bodies have been collected already and suggesting that the exact number of people lost to the sorry incidence may and in fact will never be known.
The situation has even been worsened by the fact that international aid organization have been have a big problem have access to the victims while some organizations have still yet to arive in the country owing to the fact that the chaos did not spare the airports either thereby causing flight problems.
To quote the words of Liony Batista, project manager of the charity Food for the Poor "I don't think that a word has been invented for what is happening in Haiti. It is a total disaster."

Swine Flu Development around the Globe

Justify Full
The death toll has risen to 150 in Mexico even though only 20 have actually been confirmed as swine flu while tests are still on and a couple of thousands are either six or showing symptoms and signs.

In the United States, the CDC and some states have about 45 cases in New York, 13 in California, 6 in Texas with two recorded so far in Kansas while one cases each have been confirmed in Indiana and Ohio.

In the UK there has been two cases confirmed while there has been a couple others showing symptoms of the swine flu.

And to cap it all the WHO alert is now set at Phase 4 of a possible 6, meaning the flu is spreading accross borders easily but isn't pandemic yet.

To this effect, flights have been cancelled from European countries to Mexico leaving summer vacation plans of alot of people especially in the UK in shambles and everybody that has come back from Mexico undergoing thorough screening and observation.

However, despite the severity of the flu, I still believe there is a media angle to the reporting of the flu most especially in UK!

Flu - Here We Go Again!

Influenza often referred to as flu is one virus that seems to be well adapted to beating human health techniques and practices. A couple of years ago it was bird ravaging the Asian region and it seem we have overcome that threat but lo and behold here we are waking to the reality that the virus is on rampage again yet in another form -Swine Flu.

The flu has been reported to have killed over 80 people in Mexico already with investigations still on-going on 1,000 cases of suspicious severe flu-like infections and it is fast spreading with reports of about 20 people already infected in the United States and this has already sparked a declaration of a "public health emergency" in the United States and indeed a public health alert the world over.

The emergence of this newly identified strain of A/H1N1 swine influenza (flu) has led to a greater level vigilance at border crossings and airport security lines for coughing or ill-appearing travelers. However, it has not been regarded an epidemic yet as the Secretary of Homeland security Janet Napolitano puts it the situation "sounds more severe than really it is" nevertheless, though health organizations and governments are keeping a close eye on the developments.
